Critical Approaches

English-Fall 2008

Blog #5 – My Final Thoughts… November 20, 2008

So I was going to go out on a limb and try and say that critical theory should be reserved for graduate studies; however that would be too difficult, haha!

I absolutely 100% think that Critical Theory should be introduced early on in University, instead of just grad school. As I have mentioned in some of my comments on other blogs; I was telling my friend the other day (she has already graduated from University with a major in history and a minor in english) about our class and she was so surprised (and impressed) that we were learning these theories already. It made me feel pretty good, haha like maybe we are a bit ahead of the game.

I think that being introduced to these theories early on will allow us to find the ones that we feel confortable with; which I know for me is a good thing because it gives me confidence in this class as well as others. I find myself applying what I have learned in Anita’s class to other classes this term; and I feel as though I now have a huge advantage just because I took this class.

This term has been great, it’s been fun getting to know everyone. I loved our tiny little class and hearing everyone’s different perspectives; I’ve learned a lot from everyone in the class! Thank you all!

Hope to see you all around!

    Hi Meaghan!

Awwww!!!! You’re dog is soooo cute 🙂

I too also found this class really helpful (I’ve probably said this on everyone else’s blog ^^;). I found that having a brief summary of the main critical theories gave me a great background to literary approaches. I also found that having a small class with a variety of assignments gave me the freedom to experiment with various approaches and choose which one I like best.

It’s been great reading your blogs! Have a great Christmas and I hope to see you again next semester 🙂

I guess we are all pretty much in agreement on the matter.
Having a small class really made this class a lot more manageable, I think. We really got to investigate the theories and peoples opinions on them.
Have a great holiday and maybe I’ll see you around next semester!
    Cheers, Heather
